where is my turbotax refund
There are few simple steps to look up the status of your refund. But before you start, first check your return’s e-file status to make sure it was accepted. You can check the status here; if you already know your return was accepted, you can skip this step.

The IRS created a section on its website that allows you to track the status of your refund. Go to Where’s My Refund and follow the steps. In order to retrieve the information, you will need the following:

  • Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number.
  • Filing status as indicated on your tax return.
  • Refund amount – Exact dollar amount as shown on your tax return.

If you e-filed you tax return, refund details should be posted in the IRS website within 3 days. If, on the other hand, you mailed your return, wait approximately 21 days for more information on the refund.

State refund

To track your state refund online, visit the appropriate state agency. TurboTax created a page with quick links to the refund section of all states that collect personal income taxes. Click here to select your state.

Check on the phone

You can now track your refund directly from your smart phone. The IRS create an app called IRS2Go that not only updates you on the status of your refund, but also contains links to tax updates, latest news, IRS on Twitter, and provides access to your tax records. You can get the app from iTunes store or Google Play.

TurboTax created its own app to track your federal and state refund on one screen.  It’s available for iPhone and Android users.

Call IRS for refund info

You also have an option of calling the IRS and inquire about your refund. In that case, call 1-800-829-1954 and be prepared to provide the same information as listed above: social security number, filing status, and refund amount.
